Haiyore! Nyaruko-san OVA References
This episode of "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san" was released on "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san Supesharu Nekuronomikon DVD" (這いよれ！ニャル子さん スペシャルネクロノミコンDVD), "Crawl! Nyaruko Special Necronomicon DVD", a bonus DVD shipped to those who bought every DVD or every BD volume of season 1 of "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san" and applied to receive the DVD. According to a tweet by the official Nyaruko twitter account, shipment of this DVD began on April 9, 2013. The name of this DVD is referencing the Necronomicon, a magical grimoire that appears in the Cthulhu Mythos and was created by H. P. Lovecraft.
This episode is based on "Yasashii Teki no Shitomekata" (やさしい敵の仕留め方), "How to Defeat a Kind Enemy", a short story about "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san" written by Aisora Manta (逢空万太). The story was first published on January 12, 2012 in "GA Bunko Magazine Vol.1" (GA文庫マガジン Vol.1), a magazine published by GA Bunko. The story was later published in volume 11 of the "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san" light novel series, which was published on April 15, 2013.

The Japanese line is "Itsuka kage ga hikari wo shikai suru!" (いつか影が光を支配する！). This is referencing the same line said by Seiki Ou Shadoo Muun (世紀王シャドームーン), Century King Shadow Moon, in "Kamen Raidaa Dikeido Ooru raidaa tai Dai Shokkaa" (仮面ライダーディケイド オールライダー対大ショッカー), "Kamen Rider Decade All Riders vs. Great Shocker", a movie released in 2009.S3

The Japanese line is "Kuru nara koi! Subete wo hakai shite yaru!" (来るなら来い！全てを破壊してやる！). This is referencing the same line said by Kamen Rider Decade in episode 31 of "Kamen Rider Decade" (仮面ライダーディケイド), a Japanese TV show about a masked super hero that aired in 2009.S3 In addition, the catch phrase for the series is "Subete wo hakaishi, subete wo tsunage!" (全てを、全てを繋げ！), which translates to "Destroy everything, connect everything!".

This is referencing "Akazukin Chacha" (赤ずきんチャチャ), "Red Riding Hood Chacha", a manga series written by Ayahana Min (彩花みん) and published from 1992 to 2000.S1 It was adapted into an anime series in 1994 and aired until 1995. In the anime adaptation, the main character, Chacha (チャチャ), is able to transform into Magical Princess (マジカルプリンセス). This is referencing "Nichi Asa Kizzu Taimu" (ニチアサキッズタイム), "Sunday Morning Kids Time", a block of television programming that airs on Sunday mornings.S1 This block of television broadcasts on "TV Asahi" (テレビ朝日), a Japanese television broadcasting channel. During this block of television, a show from the "Pretty Cure" series (プリキュアシリーズ) broadcasts right after a show from the "Kamen Rider" series (仮面ライダーシリーズ). This is referencing the Room of Spirit and Time from "Dragon Ball" (ドラゴンボール). The Room of Spirit and Time is an alternate dimension in which time passes 365 times faster than it does on Earth. 1 day's worth of time outside the dimension is equivalent to 1 year's worth of time inside the dimension.
"There exists a world in which you can accelerate by 1000 times. In English, Accel Wo-" (5:27)
Cthuko was about to say "Akuseru Waarudo" (アクセル・ワールド), "Accel World". This is referencing "Akuseru Waarudo" (アクセル・ワールド), "Accel World", a light novel series written by Kawahara Reki (川原礫) and published from 2009 and is currently ongoing. In the series, there exists a program called "Brain Burst" (ブレイン・バースト) that can accelerate a person's thought processes. One ability granted by Brain Burst is called "Burst Link" (バースト・リンク). When used, Burst Link accelerates a person's thought processes by 1000 times. In addition, Brain Burst enables access to a virtual reality world called "Kasoku Sekai" (加速世界), which translates to "Accelerated World". On a related note, in the scene above there are butterflies flying in the background behind Cthuko, and she has two strands of hair sticking up from her head. This is referencing Kuroyukihime (黒雪姫), whose virtual world appearance has a butterfly motif. * The Japanese line is "Fuzakenaide! Oogoe dashinasai! San chi otoshita no kashira!" (ふざけないで！大声出しなさい！ＳＡＮ値落としたのかしら！). This is referencing a line said by Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from "Full Metal Jacket".S2 His line goes, "Bullsh-t I can't hear you. Sound off like you got a pair!". The Japanese translation of his line goes, "Fuzakeruna! Oogoe dase! Tama otoshita ka!" (ふざけるな！大声だせ！タマ落としたか！), which translates to "Don't mess around! Louder! Did you lose your balls?!"
* "SAN chi" (SAN値), "sanity points", is a parameter that characters have in the "Call of Cthulhu" role playing game. If a character's sanity points drop to zero, the character is permanently insane and normally can no longer be played.
"And do you think you can shoot down sadness and hatred?!" (6:42)
The Japanese line is "Sore de kanashimi to nikushimi wo uchiotoseru to omotteru no!" (それで悲しみと憎しみを撃ち落とせると思ってるの！). This is referencing a line in the lyrics to "Totsugeki Rabu Haato" (突撃ラブハート), "Charging Love Heart", a song performed by Fire_Bomber (ファイアーボンバー) and released in 1994.S1 This song is a theme song used in "Macross 7" (マクロス7), an anime series that aired from 1994 to 1995. The original line goes, "Kanashimi to nikushimi wo uchiotoshite yuke" (悲しみと憎しみを撃ち落としてゆけ), which translates to "Shoot down sadness and hatred".
"It's as if you're a standing tower of sanity roll!" (6:55)
There are two references here:
* The Japanese line is "Marude sobietatsu shoukido rooru ne!" (まるでそびえ立つ正気度ロールね！). This is referencing a line said by Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from "Full Metal Jacket".S1 His line goes, "I didn't know they stacked sh-t that high!". The Japanese translation of his line goes, "Marude sobietatsu kuso da!" (まるでそびえ立つクソだ！), which translates to "It's as if you're a standing tower of garbage!".
* "Shoukido rooru" (正気度ロール), "sanity roll", is referencing sanity points, a parameter that characters have in the "Call of Cthulhu" role playing game. In the game, whenever a character encounters a sanity threatening situation, the player controlling that character does a sanity roll, a dice roll to determine the amount of sanity points lost from the encounter. If the roll is successful, depending on what was encountered, the character loses either a minimal amount of sanity points or none at all. If the roll is unsuccessful, the character typically loses a large amount of sanity points. If a character's sanity points drop to zero, the character is permanently insane and normally can no longer be played.
"I didn't get a Heavenly Scale, again." (7:02)
"Tenrin" (天鱗), "Heavenly Scale", is a rare item that appears in "Monster Hunter Frontier Online" (モンスターハンター フロンティア オンライン), a video game released by CAPCOM (カプコン) in 2007.S1 Since this game, the item has appeared in several other games in the "Monster Hunter" (モンスターハンター) series.
"I'm not afraid of anything anymore!" (7:28)
The Japanese line is "Mou nani mo kowaku arimasen!" (もう何も恐くありません！). This is referencing a line said by Tomoe Mami (巴マミ) in episode 3 of "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika" (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ), "Magical Girl Madoka Magica", an anime series that aired in 2011. Her line goes, "Mou nani mo kowaku nai!" (もう何も恐くない！), which has the same meaning as above. In addition, the title of this episode is also "Mou nani mo kowaku nai" (もう何も恐くない).

Nyaruko's hair is in the shape of the character 「邪」, which means "evil" or "wicked".S3 「邪」 is the first character used in the term 「邪神」 (jashin), which means "evil god". This term is used to refer to creatures that are in the "Great Old One" classification in the Cthulhu Mythos. This classification refers to tremendously powerful creatures that are considered to be on the level of gods. Notable examples include Cthulhu, Cthugha, and Hastur. Nyarlathotep is classified as an Outer God in the Cthulhu Mythos, however in "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san", Nyarlathotep is also referred to by the term "jashin" (邪神). On a related note, it has been established in the series that Nyaruko's hair is able to detect suspicious activity, and she calls this ability "Jashin Reedaa" (邪神レーダー), which translates to "Evil God Radar".

"Anything Goes!" is the title of the opening theme song of "Kamen Rider OOO" (仮面ライダーオーズ), a Japanese TV show about a masked super hero that aired from 2010 to 2011.S1

The Japanese line is "Oshioki shichau zo!" (お仕置きしちゃうぞ). This appears to be referencing a line said by Sailor Moon in "Bishoujo Senshi Seeraa Muun" (美少女戦士セーラームーン), "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon", a manga series written by Takeuchi Naoko (武内直子), and published from 1991 to 1997.S1 Her line goes, "Tsuki ni kawatte oshioki yo!" 「これ以上誰かの涙は見たくない！みんなに笑顔でいてほしいんです！だから見てて下さい！俺の、変身！」* Considering Nyaruko's line and her pose with her hands clasped together in front of her chest, this scene also appears to be referencing Kaname Madoka (鹿目まどか) in episode 12 of "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika" (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ), "Magical Girl Madoka Magica".S1 In the episode, Madoka chooses to become a magical girl. When making her wish in exchange for becoming a magical girl, she has her hands clasped together in front of her chest and says the following:

This is referencing "Choujuukishin Dankuuga" (超獣機神ダンクーガ), "Super Beast Machine God Dancouga", an anime series that aired in 1985.S2 In the series, there is a giant robot called Dancouga that is formed by combining four smaller robots. To initiate the combination, a keyword needs to be entered into the main computer contained in one of the four smaller robots. The keyword is "DANCOUGA". In episode 15, when the keyword is first used, it is entered into the computer letter by letter, and the spoken line goes, "D, A, N, C, O, U, G, A!" (D・A・N・C・O・U・G・A！). In addition, this appears to be referencing "Miyama-san chi no Berutein" (深山さんちのベルテイン), "The Miyama Household's Berutein", a light novel series written by Aisora Manta (逢空万太) and published from 2010 and is currently ongoing.S1 In the series, there is a character who mails a letter to a radio show and goes by the pen name "Kurouringu Kaos" (クロウリング・カオス), "Crawling Chaos". This name seems to imply the character is actually Nyaruko. Also, Aisora Manta is the author of the "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san" light novel series, and it is implied that this series and "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san" take place in the same universe.
"No matter what happens I will not be broken!" (9:22)
There are two references here:
* The Japanese line is "Mou nani ga atte mo kujikemasen!" (もう何があっても挫けません！). This is referencing a line in the lyrics to "Konekuto" (コネクト), "Connect", a song sung by ClariS and released in 2011. This song is the opening theme song to "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika" (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ), "Magical Girl Madoka Magica". The original line goes, "Mou nani ga atte mo kujikenai" (もう何があっても挫けない), which has the same meaning as above.
* The outfit that Nyaruko is wearing is referencing that which she wears in "Yasashii Teki no Shitomekata" (やさしい敵の仕留め方), "How to Defeat a Kind Enemy", the short story that this episode is based on. Image for reference:
"Sharanra sharanraa" (9:48)
The Japanese line is "Sharanra sharanraa" (シャランラシャランラー). This is referencing a line said by Kanzaki Megu (神崎メグ) in "Majokko Megu-chan" (魔女っ子メグちゃん), "Witch Girl Megu", an anime series that aired from 1974 to 1975.S1 "Sharanra" (シャランラ) is a phrase said by Megu when she casts a magic spell.
"Kanito!" (10:03)
There are two references here:
* The Japanese line is "Kanito!" (カニト！). This is referencing "Wizardry", a video game series that first began release in 1981.S1 In the series, there is a spell called "Makanito" (マカニト). When cast, this spell causes instant death to enemies that are at level 8 or lower.
* Nyaruko's pose in this scene is referencing Kinomoto Sakura (木之本桜) in "Cardcaptor Sakura" (カードキャプターさくら). Sakura is able to cast spells and summon spirits by using magical cards and her magic wand. To use a card, she strikes the card with her wand in front of her. She also does this pose when she uses her wand to seal spirits in cards. Image for reference:
"Pipiruma pipirumaa harito!" (10:54)
There are two references here:
* The Japanese line is "Pipiruma pipirumaa harito!" (ピピルマピピルマーハリト！). This is referencing Minky Momo (ミンキーモモ) from "Mahou no Purinsesu Minkii Momo" (魔法のプリンセス ミンキーモモ), Magical Princess Minky Momo", an anime series that aired from 1982 to 1983.S1 In the series, Minky Momo is able to change her appearance by using her magic wand and reciting magical words. Her line goes, "Pipiruma pipiruma puririnpa papareho papareho doriminpa" (ピピルマ ピピルマ プリリンパ パパレホ パパレホ ドリミンパ).
* "Maaharito" (マーハリト) is referencing "Wizardry".S1 In the series, there is a fire elemental spell called "Maharito" (マハリト), "Mahalito".
"I am the strongest, but I may have given birth to the worst magical girl." (11:17)
This appears to be referencing "Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika" (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ), "Magical Girl Madoka Magica". In the series, magical girls possess an item called a soul gem, a physical manifestation of their soul. When a magical girl's soul gem is completely tainted by darkness, her soul gem turns into a grief seed, which then gives birth to a witch. The more powerful a girl is as a magical girl, the more powerful the witch she will become. In episode 9, one of the characters, Kyuubee (キュゥべえ), says, "Madoka, itsuka kimi ha, saikou no mahou shoujo ni naru, soshite saiaku no majou ni naru darou" (まどか、いつか君は最高の魔法少女になり、そして最悪の魔女になるだろう), which translates to "Madoka, one day you will become the greatest magical girl, and then become the worst witch".
"Truly, being a Magical girl is my calling!" (11:59)
The Japanese line is "Mattaku, mahou shoujo ha tenshoku desu yo!" (まったく、魔法少女は天職ですよ！). This is referencing a line said by the helicopter door gunner from "Full Metal Jacket".S2 His line goes, "Ain't war hell?!". The Japanese translation of his line goes, "Honto sensou ha jigoku da ze!" (ホント戦争は地獄だぜ！), which translates to "Truly war is hell!".

Cthuko is dressed in a black suit and is holding a memory erasing device that gives off a bright flash of light when activated. This is referencing "Men in Black", a science fiction film released in 1997. The film is based on "Men in Black", a comic book series written by Lowell Cunningham and first published in 1990. The film is about a secret organization called the Men in Black that monitors and polices alien activity on Earth. All members of the organization wear black suits and sunglasses, and they use a special handheld device called a Neuralyzer to erase the memories of people who have seen alien activity. When activated, the Neuralyzer gives off a bright flash of light. Cthuko's appearance is mimicking that of the Men in Black, and the device she is holding is based on the Neuralyzer in terms of appearance and function. Image for reference:

"Nyaruko's Full Force Form is only that." (12:38)
Nyaruko's Full Force Form is based on Knight Blazer (ナイトブレイザー) from "WILD ARMS 2nd IGNITION" (ワイルドアームズ セカンドイグニッション), a video game released by Media.Vision (メディア・ビジョン) in 1999. As stated in a tweet by Aisora Manta (逢空万太), the author of "Haiyore! Nyaruko-san",
～＜ ｀・ω・´＞ 何度も言ってますがニャル子のフルフォースフォームはナイトブレイザーがモチーフですからね。つまりこれよりさらに……あとは分かるな？The term "Furu Foosu Foomu" (フルフォースフォーム), "Full Force Form", is likely also referencing "WILD ARMS 2nd IGNITION" (ワイルドアームズ セカンドイグニッション). In the game, characters have a parameter called "Foosu Pointo" (フォースポイント), "Force Point", and a character can have a maximum of 100 Force Points. Certain abilities require a certain number of Force Points to use. The main character, Ashley Winchester (アシュレー・ウィンチェスター), has an ability called "Access" (アクセス) which allows him to transform into Knight Blazer at the cost of 100 Force Points.
～＜ ｀・ω・´＞ I've said it many times but Nyaruko's Full Force Form has Knight Blazer as the motif. Basically from this furthermore...... you get the rest right?
"That's because 5 young men will fight for the independence of the colonies..." (14:51)
This is referencing the plot of "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" (新機動戦記ガンダムW), an anime series that aired from 1995 to 1996. In the series, 5 Gundams, powerful robotic weapons, are piloted by 5 young men who fight for the independence of the space colonies.
